New York Assembly Passes Dangerous Bill to Legalize Assisted Suicide


(LifeNews.com) – The New York State Assembly passed a controversial bill Tuesday that would legalize assisted suicide, a move critics warn could endanger vulnerable populations. The Medical Aid in Dying Act, approved by a vote of 81-67, now heads to the Senate, where its fate remains uncertain.

The legislation, sponsored by Assemblymember Amy Paulin, D-Scarsdale, passed despite bipartisan opposition, by a vote of 81-67. Jessica Rodgers, Coalitions Director for Patients’ Rights Action Fund, told LifeNews that her group would keep fighting the bill in the state Senate.

“This process began yesterday with a run on three committees to push it through, with the final committee taking action off the floor and immediately moving the bill to the agenda of the Assembly floor,” Rodgers explained. CONTINUE
