(KOTA) – For Daneen and Robert Martin, every morning begins with a prayer of gratitude, and an overwhelming checklist of medical care.
Their son, Steven, was inside his family’s home on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation when a stray bullet pierced through an exterior wall and struck him in the head. Doctors initially gave him slim odds of survival, warning his parents he might never talk, eat, or stand on his own again.
Against all expectations, Steven survived. “They told us that he wasn’t going to do a lot of things… and little by little, he’s overcoming all those hurdles,” said his mother, Daneen Martin. “He’s nothing but a miracle.” CONTINUE
