(Michigan Live) – The ride was Paul Gobble’s Plan B for the day.
He and his wife, Chris, planned to bike the Kal-Haven Trail that afternoon instead of riding with the Chain Gang, but poor weather forced them to see a matinee instead.
Gobble had been participating in weekly rides with the cycling group for three years. Ten years ago he wasn’t able to keep up with the cyclists, but it was always a goal of his to get in good enough shape to ride with the Chain Gang.
That evening, June 7, 2016, the Richland resident joined eight others on a Tuesday night ride as he did most weeks.
Half an hour after departing on a ride to Plainwell and back, a pickup truck speeding down Westnedge Avenue north of Kalamazoo mowed down the group of nine bicyclists. CONTINUE
