‘Walking Miracle:’ Mount Pleasant Mother, Nurse Back After Brain Injury


(The Post and Courier) — Wendy Bowling burst into tears when she caught sight of Catherine Carson at the nurses’ station at Roper St. Francis Mount Pleasant Hospital.

“I’m sorry,” Bowling said quietly, as she hugged Carson. “I thought you were going to die.”

She wasn’t the only one: many of the colleagues and friends who visited Carson last year around Mother’s Day as she lay unconscious in the intensive care unit worried she might not pull through.

“She was in a coma,” said Cathy Brannigan, a clinical nurse manager at Roper Mount Pleasant. “We didn’t think she was going to wake up.” CONTINUE
