
(WCVB) — The “Piano Man” has pulled the plug on his summer tour — Billy Joel told fans Friday that he is battling a brain condition, which causes him to lose his balance and vision.
“I’m sincerely sorry to disappoint our audience, and thank you for understanding,” Joel said on social media Friday. Joel was diagnosed with a condition called normal pressure hydrocephalus (NPH), where fluid builds up inside the brain.
NewsCenter 5 spoke with Dr. Dan Daneshvar, a brain injury physician who is chief of brain injury rehabilitation at Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital in Charlestown, to learn more about the singer’s diagnosis.
“The fluid effectively pushes out the brain tissue more than it’s supposed to,” Daneshvar said. “That pressure on the brain tissue can cause damage to it. CONTINUE
