Illinois Senate Advances Assisted Suicide Bill to Governor’s Desk


(World) – The state Senate early Friday morning voted 30-27 to approve the so-called End-of-Life Options for Terminally Ill Patients Act.

State Sen. Laura Ellman, D-District 21, in February introduced a bill referred to as the Sanitary Food Preparation Act that originally dealt with regulations on food distribution facilities.

In May, state Rep. Robyn Gabel, D-District 18, filed an amended version of the bill that replaced the entire bill text with the assisted suicide bill. Lawmakers in the state House passed the measure in May but the Senate failed to take up the issue before adjourning until the fall session. CONTINUE
