(CBS12) — Palm Beach County Fire Rescue is using a cutting-edge medical protocol that few agencies in the country have adopted: administering plasma to critically injured patients before they ever reach the hospital.
Fire rescue leaders say the program is already changing outcomes for patients with severe trauma and traumatic brain injuries, allowing medics to begin life-saving care minutes earlier, right in the back of a rescue truck.
Plasma is a blood product that plays a key role in clotting, stabilization and maintaining blood pressure after serious injuries. Traditionally, it is given once a patient arrives at the hospital. CONTINUE
