(Broomfield Enterprise) – “Good morning, you little circus freaks,” Jimmy Zechmann, Broomfield High School’s wrestling coach, said to nearly 40 boys in athletic clothes on Wednesday at about 4:25 p.m.
A low ceiling adorned with fluorescent lights, a floor covered in blue wrestling mats and walls plastered with just-as-blue padding encased the team of high-school wrestlers as August Soto, 17, began running around the room, mouthguard hanging half out of his mouth, to warm up with his teammates. A few minutes later, he’d grab a headgear designed to soften impacts and start doing wrestling drills with a teammate.
Just six months ago, August’s family didn’t think he would be on the mat again for this whole year, after he suffered a traumatic brain injury in a car crash in July. CONTINUE
