Today is Giving Tuesday and most likely you are receiving appeals from many charities and worthy causes.
However, unlike many non-profits, the Terri Schiavo Life & Hope Network makes few appeals throughout the year. Today is one of the rare times that we are asking for your support.
What you already know is that my family began the Life & Hope Network after my sister Terri’s death, to serve as patient advocates for the brain injured and the medically vulnerable.
What you might not know is how vital this work is today, more than ever, in the face of euthanasia—imposed death—becoming accepted as if it were medical treatment.
It is happening both through the government’s endorsement of assisted suicide, and through medical systems and health care insurers who are more interested saving costs than in life-affirming care for those who would benefit from treatment and rehabilitative services.
Yet, the response is to pretend that something like starving a person to death—through denial of a feeding tube’s food and water (legal in every state)—is more humane than providing the care that is needed, especially in a time of crisis.
The Terri Schiavo Life & Hope Network extends that helping hand through our National Crisis Lifeline. Indeed, for the past 15 years, we have assisted more than 3,000 families and their loved ones to get the care they deserve, the legal advocacy they need, or to be the understanding ally and support in their fight for life.
Sadly, however, we are confronting a culture of death that is infiltrating our nation, and with it, threatening the lives of our most vulnerable.
Your contribution to our Giving Tuesday campaign helps ensure we are equipped to serve those in crisis, affirm life for the most medically defenseless among us, and serve as a witness for life and hope in an increasingly hopeless and uncertain time.
I’m asking you to make a gift before midnight tonight, using any of the links included.
The life-affirming work of the Terri Schiavo Life & Hope Network, in service of the medically vulnerable, has changed countless lives for the better over the past decade.
I appreciate anything you are able to contribute.
